Product Details

Willow Bark is a traditional bulk herb made from the bark of several Salix species, including Salix alba, Salix fragilis, Salix daphnoides, and Salix purpurea. Willow trees grow in many temperate regions and have a long history of use in traditional herbal preparations.

Willow bark is especially known for naturally containing salicin, a plant constituent that became historically significant in the development of acetylsalicylic acid. Salicin was isolated and later synthesized in the 1800s, eventually leading to the development of aspirin in the late 1890s.

This cut and sifted bark is commonly used in decoctions, tinctures, traditional tea preparations, and home apothecary projects. Because bark is firmer than leafy herbs, it is usually simmered rather than simply steeped.
