Product Details
Organic Sarsaparilla Root is a cut bulk herb from Smilax spp., a slender climbing vine with twining woody stems, reddish-brown bark, smooth shiny leaves, and long, winding roots. Sarsaparilla root is best known for its use as a traditional flavoring ingredient in drinks, especially old-fashioned root beer.
This root has an earthy, slightly bitter flavor with a naturally sweet, vanilla-like scent. It can be used in teas, decoctions, homemade syrups, root beer-style blends, bitters, tinctures, and other home apothecary recipes.
Because roots are firmer than leafy herbs, sarsaparilla is best simmered to draw out its flavor.
